Exhibition

Exhibition

What challenges have we experienced with exhibition that we want to address?
beautiful vs authentic - made by kids’ hands
need to show the process that the students experience

kids are able to talk about something they did several weeks ago - have something to point to

parents understand the meaning behind what the kids are explaining

helping kids and parents understand that kids will present to all visitors - independently

finding a way for audience to interact in the evening - crowd noise and getting “stuck” in a certain point in the process

flow of people across classrooms,

presenting for hours

presentation of work, adult hand / adult eyes

amount of trash that is created

comparison of group work - not all the same quality

helping parents / audience “see” the amount of work behind the product

each child having an authentic “responsibility” that evening

reconciling several audiences - matter project
What is the purpose of exhibition?  Why do we ask students to exhibit their work to a larger audience?
  • Showcase student learning
  • Interact and teach community about our work
  • Have dialogue to deepen understandings
  • CELEBRATE beautiful work and everything we’ve learned – give it its own night
  • Exhibition adds to the authenticity and purpose of the students learning experience.
  • A way to have accountability to a larger audience… in a safe space
  • A celebration of the learning they’ve done in their project
  • Students share learning to help educate the community in an interactive, professional, & beautiful way
  • a way for students to practice speaking to an audience, build articulation
  • Build confidence and celebrate our learning.
  • Informal assessment tool.
  • The purpose of exhibition is for student's to share their entire learning process with a larger audience. The product is the culmination of that learning, but I think that exhibition needs to have elements that show the process of developing that product...that is where the meat of the meaningful learning happens
  • Audience participation and interaction to create real life situations.
  • Exhibition is another connection to the adult world, especially with adults other than their parents.
  • to reinforce that their learning is meaningful and what they can do is important to others
  • authentic high-stakes way to share student work with the public
  • The big message to students is that their work matters
  • Authentic assessment
  • real world correlation-interactive piece is very important
